Hiberet T. Belay, MD, MRCPsych, MICPsych, is a Board Member of Directors of Ethio-American Doctors Group, Inc. In November 2015, Dr. Belay became a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist at Connolly Hospital Blancherdstown - a major teaching hospital in Dublin. She graduated from Gondar College of Medical sciences in 2001, and worked at the Gondar College of Medical Sciences and Emmanuel Psychiatric Hospital following her graduation. Subsequently in 2005, Dr. Belay obtained the Erasmus Mundus scholarship and pursued a Master’s degree in Humanitarian Assistance at University College Dublin. For her Masters placement Dr. Belay did volunteer work with GOAL - Ireland, and provided humanitarian work in Darfur, Sudan for six months, working with local health centres. She wrote her theses on the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of mothers in Darfur on diarrheal diseases. Following this Dr. Belay pursued her medical training in psychiatry, joining residency training in 2006 with the St. Patricks scheme in Dublin, completing both Basic and Higher Specialist training in psychiatry. She is a member of both the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland and the Royal College of Psychiatry, UK. She has a special interest in the fields of neuropsychiatry, perinatal psychiatry and liaison psychiatry. Having had first-hand clinical experience of managing psychiatric illnesses and associated stigma in Ethiopia and having expert clinical training in Europe, Dr. Belay is a seasoned general adult psychiatrist. She also has a strong academic interest and has worked as a tutor in psychiatry at the Royal College of Surgeons in 2010, and as a Special Lecturer in Psychiatry at the University College Dublin 2012-2014. She has worked with University College Dublin rolling eLearning software’s such as Articulate software web-based educational tool used to develop interactive learning and Sparkplus, a web-based educational tool used to enhance student group work.
